Privacy Policy

Short version: DNS Panopticon does not collect personal information, does not use cookies for tracking, and does not sell or share data with third parties. Zone files you upload are processed entirely in your browser and never leave your device.

Zone File Uploads

When you use the Zone Analyzer, all file parsing is performed locally within your browser using JavaScript. Your DNS zone export files are never transmitted to our servers or any third party. They exist only in your browser's memory for the duration of your session.

DNS Queries

When you use the Domain Explorer, your entered domain name is sent to our server, which resolves DNS records on your behalf using Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) and Google (8.8.8.8) DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) resolvers. Your IP address is not forwarded to these resolvers.

To reduce resolver load and improve response times, query results may be cached on our servers for up to 30 minutes. Cached results are keyed by domain name and scan mode only — no user identifiers are stored alongside them.

Logs and Rate Limiting

Our servers maintain short-lived request logs for operational purposes (error monitoring, rate limiting, and abuse prevention). These logs may include IP addresses and requested domain names. Logs are not retained beyond what is needed for these operational purposes and are not used to build profiles of individual users.

Rate limiting counters are tracked per IP address to ensure fair use of the service. These counters are ephemeral and do not persist beyond a rolling 24-hour window.

Cookies and Local Storage

DNS Panopticon does not use cookies. The only data written to your browser's local storage is your theme preference (dns-theme), which stores whether you prefer the light or dark interface. This value never leaves your device.

Third-Party Services

  • Google Fonts — Typography is loaded from Google Fonts. Google may log font requests in accordance with their own privacy policy.
  • Cloudflare — The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process network-level data in accordance with their privacy policy.

No advertising networks, analytics platforms, or tracking pixels are used on this site.

Children's Privacy

DNS Panopticon is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
